Spielman Statement on Health Care:
We are in a major health care crisis in the state of Pennsylvania as well as in the nation. Currently, there are 1 in 12 Pennsylvanians who have no health care coverage and thousands more who have inadequate coverage and many of us will lose the coverage we have over the next year. We are one of the only industrial nations in the world who don’t provide health care for its citizens. Health care costs are rising drastically and business cannot afford to offer health care coverage to their employees. Today if someone is in the hospital, it could cost the family thousands of $s per day, a cost the average family couldn’t afford. Prescription drugs are increasing so that many of us have to decide whether to purchase our medications or pay for our electricity. These are choices we shouldn’t have to make. I will take action to provide all Pennsylvanians health care coverage. There is a health care bill in the Senate that I would support if elected. It provides full coverage – including doctors, dentists, eye care and prescription drug programs – at a low cost to employers and employees. We must provide Pennsylvania’s with a good health care plan, one that both employers and employees can afford.
I would also support a patient’s right to know who the incompetent doctors. My opponent voted against posting a bad doctors list, I would support posting this list. We should feel safe in the doctors we entrust with our care.
